Rolling forecast意思

"Rolling forecast" is a business term used to describe a forecasting technique where forecasts are updated at regular intervals and the forecast horizon is shifted forward. This means that as new data becomes available, the forecast is adjusted and the time period covered by the forecast is extended.

For example, if a company is using a rolling forecast to predict sales for the next 12 months, they might update their forecast every month. Each month, they would incorporate the actual sales data from the previous month into their forecast, and they would extend the forecast by one month. So, after one month, the forecast would cover the next 13 months, after two months it would cover the next 14 months, and so on.

Rolling forecasts are often used in business planning and budgeting, as they can provide a more current and accurate view of what the future may hold. They are particularly useful in environments where conditions are constantly changing, as they allow businesses to adapt their plans and strategies accordingly.
