Root canal是什麼意思

"Root canal" is a dental procedure that is performed when the pulp of a tooth becomes inflamed or infected. The pulp is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When the pulp is damaged, it can cause pain, swelling, and infection.

During a root canal procedure, the dentist or endodontist (a specialist in root canal treatment) removes the infected or inflamed pulp from the tooth. The root canal (the space within the root of the tooth) is then cleaned and shaped, and filled with a special material to prevent future infection. A crown or other restoration is typically placed on the tooth to protect it and restore its function.

Root canal treatment is a common and effective way to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted (removed). It is a relatively minor surgical procedure that is performed under local anesthesia to numb the tooth and surrounding tissues.
