Pragmatics意思

"Pragmatics" is a term used in linguistics and philosophy that refers to the study of how meaning is determined by the context in which an utterance is made. Unlike semantics, which focuses on the literal meaning of words and sentences, pragmatics is concerned with the way in which meaning is understood in relation to the speaker, the listener, the situation in which the communication occurs, and the goals of the participants.

In other words, pragmatics is about the practical implications of language use, including the intentions behind an utterance, the effects of the utterance on the listener, and the social conventions that govern how language is used. It encompasses a wide range of phenomena, including speech acts (such as requests, commands, and promises), implicature (the process by which speakers convey meaning that is not explicitly stated), and the role of context in determining meaning.

Pragmatics is closely related to other fields of study, such as sociolinguistics, cognitive science, and artificial intelligence, and it plays a crucial role in our ability to communicate effectively and to understand the intentions and beliefs of others.
