Polar molecules的意思

"Polar molecules" refers to molecules that have a net dipole moment. This means that the molecule has an uneven distribution of electrical charge across its atoms, with a partial positive charge on one end and a partial negative charge on the other end. This happens when the molecule is not symmetrical in its structure, such that the atoms involved in the bond have different electronegativities, which results in a difference in the sharing of electrons between them.

The presence of a dipole moment in a molecule can significantly affect its physical properties, such as its boiling point, melting point, and solubility. Polar molecules are often more soluble in other polar substances, such as water, than in non-polar substances because of the strong attractive forces between the partial charges in the molecules.

Examples of polar molecules include water (H2O), ammonia (NH3), and most organic molecules that contain oxygen or nitrogen atoms bonded to hydrogen atoms, such as alcohols, acids, and amines.
