Martial law意思

"Martial law" is a legal state in which a military authority takes control of the civilian administration and enforcement of law in a designated territory. It is usually implemented in times of emergency, such as during war, insurrection, or natural disasters, when the civilian government is unable to maintain order or protect the population.

Under martial law, the military may assume responsibility for administration of justice, suspending civil law and replacing it with military law. This can include the imposition of curfews, the restriction of movement, the censorship of media, and the suspension of civil rights.

The implementation of martial law is a serious matter, as it often involves the restriction of civil liberties and the suspension of democratic processes. As such, it is typically only used as a last resort, when all other measures have failed to restore order.
