Gyopo意思

"Gyopo" is a term used in South Korea to refer to Korean nationals who were born or raised outside of South Korea. The word comes from the Korean words "gyeongseo" (경서), which means "overseas," and "hoe" (회), which means "return." So, "gyopo" literally means "returned from overseas."

Gyopos are often bilingual or multilingual, as they grow up speaking both Korean and the language of the country where they live. They may maintain strong cultural ties to Korea, but they may also face challenges in adjusting to life in Korea if they return, as they may feel like they don't fully belong in either Korea or the country where they were raised.

The term "gyopo" is not always used in a positive or neutral context, as it can sometimes carry connotations of being "too Westernized" or not truly Korean. However, attitudes towards gyopos are changing, and many Koreans recognize the valuable cultural and linguistic contributions that gyopos make to Korean society.
