Digital zoom意思

"Digital zoom" is a term used in photography and video recording to describe a method of magnification that enlarges the center part of an image and then crops the result to the same aspect ratio as the original. This is in contrast to optical zoom, which uses a lens to magnify the image before it reaches the sensor, resulting in a higher quality image with less pixelation.

Digital zoom is typically used when the camera's optical zoom is insufficient to capture the desired subject at a closer distance. However, because digital zoom simply crops and enlarges the image, it can result in a significant loss of image quality, with a noticeable decrease in sharpness and an increase in pixelation.

In digital cameras and smartphones, digital zoom is often combined with optical zoom to provide a range of zoom options. For example, a camera may have a 2x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom, allowing for a total zoom of 8x. However, the quality of the image will be much better at 2x optical zoom than at 8x total zoom.

Digital zoom is also commonly used in video recording, where it can be used to zoom in on a subject without physically moving the camera. However, the same limitations apply, and digital zoom should be used sparingly to avoid a noticeable decrease in video quality.
